Br'Nee was a scientist, specializing in botany and pharmacology, who lived on the Botany Asteroid within the asteroid field near the Gammak Base in the Uncharted Territories. The asteroid had been seeded with life over three hundred cycles before Br'Nee encountered Moya's crew there -- and Br'Nee was over two hundred cycles old himself by the time this occurred.
In order to rid the asteroid of herbivores, Br'Nee and his people introduced a species of calcivores onto the asteroid. Eventually, Br'Nee and his people returned to the asteroid -- at this point, only one calcivore remained alive, named M'Lee. She began to pick off Br'Nee's people one by one. Eventually, Br'Nee was the only one left alive.
It was at roughly this point that Moya arrived on the asteroid -- responding to a distress signal sent by M'Lee. She described Br'Nee as a ravenous creature out to kill them. Due to the thin atmosphere of the asteroid, he was initially unable to dispute these claims -- but, when the opportunity presented itself to explain, he seized it and described what M'Lee had done to his people. He omitted the fact that his people had exploited and abandoned hers.
When John Crichton learned the truth, he confronted Br'Nee. Br'Nee began to bargain with the crew of Moya, telling them he had maps to get them out of the asteroid field and away from the Peacekeepers. Zotoh Zhaan went with Br'Nee to procure these maps. When Crichton reached the lab soon after, it appeared that it had been attacked by M'Lee and that M'Lee had taken Zhaan. In truth, this was a ruse and Br'Nee had taken Zhaan captive and was preparing to study her. When Crichton realized this, he returned to the lab and the two briefly fought -- until Br'Nee was sawed in half by his own laser. M'Lee devoured the marrow from his corpse's bones.
