Igg was a false identity assumed by Maldis in order to lure John Crichton into a trap. Igg revealed knowledge of intimate details about Crichton and -- once Crichton was fully intrigued -- Igg directed him to Haloth. Haloth, in truth, was another of Maldis' guises.
