Officer Kobrin was a Peacekeeper pilot of exceptional skill. Kobrin had scored a 991 on his ratings, making him the most accomplished pilot in the Peacekeepers at the time of his service.
Under Scorpius' command, Kobrin joined a small squadron of soldiers to an ice planet in order to retrieve the neuro-chip that had been placed in John Crichton's brain. Kobrin's primary duty was to pilot the Marauder past Talyn, which he was able to accomplish while Talyn was distracted.
Leaving the planet was, however, another matter entirely. Realizing it would be several arns before Scorpius' command carrier would arrive on the planet, Kobrin was certain his piloting skills would allow them to evade Talyn. Scorpius was less certain. In order to guarantee his own survival, when the command carrier arrived, Scorpius had Kobrin pilot the Marauder as a distraction to lure Talyn away and ensure Scorpius could safely leave the planet. Though this plan succeeded, Kobrin had overestimated his own piloting skills and was killed when Talyn destroyed the Marauder.
