The Shelak tribe is a protoss tribe dating back to the Aeon of Strife. They are members of the Judicator Caste, and typically act as scholars. The tribal color of the Shelak is white. Members of the tribe typically have purple skin.
History[]
During the Aeon of Strife, the Shelak tribe watched over a trove of xel'naga artifacts -- jealously guarding them from other protoss despite the fact that they also could not read the inscriptions on the surface of the items. The Shelak continued to revere the xel'naga even after they left Aiur -- and many of the other protoss believed that the Shelak had irritated the xel'naga with incessant pestering and driven them away.
It was because of this blame, the Shelak were a frequent target of attacks during the Aeon of Strife. When Savassan left the tribe to study the artifacts, their numbers had already been dwindling for some time. However, Savassan -- calling himself Khas -- was able to bring about the end of the Aeon of Strife before his former tribe was utterly destroyed.
As protoss society was re-organized under the Khala, the Shelak tribe was charged with continuing the study of the khaydarin crystals and the ancient texts of the xel'naga. The Shelak were therefore the exception to the rule banning all xel'naga teachings.
After the Brood War, the surviving Shelak were the primary guardians of the xel'naga temple on Shakuras -- though members of all tribes participated. Zekrath represented the Shelak tribe in the Hierarchy.
After the End War, the High Templars of the Shelak tribe adopted ceremonial armor that memorialized Khas for reuniting the protoss. This armor inspired an artistic and architectural change within Daelaam.
