The Beginning

  • The universe is formed in the "Big Bang", an event theorized to be caused by unstable Omega molecules.

    • The Slann create and/or guide a number of species throughout the galaxy. Many of these comes to be servant races to the Old Ones.

The War in Heaven

Age of Xel'naga

The Last Cycle

  • The natural life cycle of the xel'naga begins to reach its conclusion. In order to ensure their survival, they begin to seek out a race with purity of form and another with purity of essence.
    • Unable to find a species pure of form, the xel'naga begin to guide the evolution of the dominant species of Aiur -- dubbing them the "protoss". The protoss eventually reach a point of total sentience and self-awareness.
    • The xel'naga discover the planet Zerus, and begin to modify the prominent species on that planet into a species that is pure of essence. To avoid the mistakes that took place with the protoss, they create the Overmind to act as a collective zerg sentience.
      • Fall of the Xel'naga: The Overmind sends zerg to attack the xel'naga, destroying much of the species.

Age of Leviathans

  • The Leviathans come to dominate the galaxy, enthralling all sentient species they encounter. In exchange for tribute, they offer protection.
  • After witnessing the synthetic races rise up against the races who created them, the Leviathans create an Intelligence to permanently protect organic life.

    • Civilization begins to flourish on Bajor.
    • Sargon's species is destroyed in a massive civil war which literally rips the atmosphere from their planet. A handful of survivors begin to live underground.
    • Exo III becomes nearly uninhabitable as its sun enters decline. The inhabitants relocate underground and build androids to serve them.
    • The Talosians develop warp drives.
  • 298,000 BCE
    • The arthenn civilization flourishes in the Zelene System, until they are destroyed. Few clues as to the events that destroyed them exist, though the planet Epho bears the scars of an orbital bombardment.
  • 125,000 BCE
    • The thoi'han and the inusannon fight over the planet Eingana, and debris from their starships are scattered across the planet. Refined element zero contaminates the planet -- eradicating much of the native life. The creatures that survive have a tendency to develop biotic powers.

Tens of Thousands of Years Ago

  • 68,000 BCE
    • The Protheans achieve space flight and discover mass effect technology in inusannon ruins. They begin to construct a galaxy-spanning empire through use of the mass relay network, with the Citadel as their capital.
      • At some unknown point after this, the Protheans encounter a hostile race of machine intelligences whom they battle in the Metacon War. They manage to fend off the threat.
  • 21,000 BCE
    • The Trill begin their life as a joined species.
  • 13,000 BCE
    • About this time, the turians and Palaven begin to develop civilizations.

Thousands of Years Ago

  • 8,000 BCE

    • With their sun about to supernova, the Fabrini leave their system on the Yonada.
  • 7,000 BCE
    • An immortal human who will become the Emperor of Mankind is born. He has the most potent psionic capabilities of any being in the Milky Way, but primarily stays behind the scenes in the development of mankind.

    • An alien race, seeking to escape the impending explosion of their sun, uploads one billion of their consciousnesses onto supercomputers stored on an AI-controlled starship. The vessels begins to traverse the galaxy on a journey that will last more than 8,000 cycles.

    • The Aldeans construct a massive cloaking device to hide their planet.

    • Landru of Beta III brings peace to his people, and constructs a supercomputer to guide and protect his people after his death.

    • Earth is visited by aliens who are worshipped as gods by the ancient Greeks.

    • The Egyptians, humans from Earth, build the pyramids of Giza.
      • Time traveling anthropologists from the future observe their construction.

    • Sarpeidon experiences an ice age. This point in time is frequently used to exile people to by future natives of the planet.
    • The Vulcans are a war-like, savage race who are nearing the brink of self-annihilation.
  • 1,500 BCE
    • The Vulcans begin working to supress their emotions.
  • 1,100 BCE
    • The krogan homeworld of Tuchanka enters the nuclear age.
      • A global conflict occurs, and a nuclear winter is triggered. Krogan society devolves into warring clans.
  • 1,000 BCE
    • A supernova pushes the Mu Relay out of position, effectively cutting off the remote Pangaea Expanse from the rest of the galaxy. The rachni will later discover this relay.
  • 400 BCE
    • Survivors from the Sahndara System's supernova reach Earth, and encounter the Greek philosophers. They are deeply impressed, and will go on to name their new homeworld Platonius.

  • 1100 CE
    • The protoss are finally unified. They begin to expand their civilization across the galaxy.
    • The rachni are declared extinct by the Citadel Council. They reward the krogan with a new homeworld.
      • Now free of Tuchanka's harsh environment, the krogan population explodes. As a result, the krogan begin colonizing other planets.
        • Concerned about the krogan expansion, the Citadel Council forms the Special Tactics and Reconassaince branch.

13th Century

  • Spock's ancestors adopt ceremonial ground that remains in their family for at least the next ten centuries.
  • The society of 892-IV (later known as Magna Roma) in an example of Hodgkin's Law of Parallel Planetary Development.

14th Century

  • A destructive war occurs on Vulcan, with powerful nuclear weapons deployed. It is a savage war even by Earth standards. A weapon called the Stone of Gol that kills with psionic powers is used.
  • The Jem'Hadar begin serving as the Dominion's front line of defense.
  • The disease called the Phage ravages the Vidilians. They survive by harvesting organs from other races.
  • The native people of Golona become extinct.

15th Century

16th Century

  • 1510 CE
    • The turians unleash a bio-weapon called the genophage, engineered by salarians, to decimate the krogan population. It is a success, and the krogan population begins to decline.

17th Century

    • On Earth, the Rosetta Stone helps archaeologists begin to decipher ancient languages. This event would remain a cornerstone in Earth history for centuries to come.
  • 1863 CE
    • The Skagarans abduct a large number of humans and horses from Earth to serve as slaves. After they land on a planet in the Delphic Expanse, the humans overthrow their Skagaran overseers and found their own colony, which remains a stagnant Western society for centuries to come.

20th Century

  • 1961 CE
    • April 12: Yuri Gagarin becomes the first human to travel in space, aboard the Vostok 1.
  • 1976 CE
  • 1993 CE
    • Scorpius enters the service of Staleek, though he is insincere in his loyalty.

21st Century

  • 2005 CE
    • Moya and Cilla join forces.
    • Noranti Pralatong undergoes a metamorphasis.
    • The Kkore Invasion Fleet launches a devastating assault of the Uncharted Territories.
      • The incursion is defeated by use of the powerful Dej-Wah ritual, wielded by an alliance of the species from the region.

22nd Century

  • 2100 CE
    • The Conclave sends Executor Adun to eradicate the Rogue Tribes. Instead of committing a genocide, he attempts to teach them to evade the Conclave. Untrained in their psionic abilities, they unleash devastating psionic storms. Nevertheless, Adun gives his life to protect them. They become known as the Dark Templar and are banished from Aiur.
      • Khyrador is abandoned as a result of the psionic storms. The Uraj Crystal is left behind.
      • The creation of Dark Archons is banned.
  • 2103 CE
    • The European Space Agency founds the Lowell City settlement in Eos Chasma on Mars.
  • 2137 CE
    • Alonso Melethat patents the first rudimentary energy shield created by humans.

23rd Century

  • 2204 CE
    • An economic consortium forms between corporate entities in Mexico, the United States of America, and Canada -- forming the North American Alliance. Although the United Nations is the official government of Earth, this economic consortium marks the beginning of a secondary, fractional system of government vying for power over the planet and its holdings.
  • 2209 CE
    • The European Economic Interest launches their own Orbiting Industrial Platform.
  • 2210 CE
    • DOMO launches an Orbiting Industrial Platform of their own.
  • 2225 CE
    • The Canterbury responds to a distress call from the derelict ship called the Scopuli -- leading to the destruction of the Canterbury leaving only a handful of survivors. (The Expanse begins.)
    • On Ceres Station, Detective Josephus Miller begins an off-the-books investigation into the disappearance of Julie Mao.
    • The survivors of the Canterbury, along with Josephus Miller, discover a dangerous alien protomolecule.
  • 2228 CE (0 UED)
    • The United Earth Directorate's short-lived calendar begins on this year.
  • 2234 CE
    • The African League of Nations is formed -- finally bringing peace to continent.
    • A serious drought begins in Africa, jeopardizing the newly formed alliance.
  • 2238 CE
    • DOMO establishes their own permanent settlement on Luna.
  • 2252 CE
    • The New Russian Republic of States is ripped apart by food riots. Some of the corporate-state's holdings join DOMO, others join the European Economic Interest. Their OIP, Pasternak, declares itself to be independent.
  • 2260 CE
    • Losing their power to govern Earth, and fearing the rising tensions between corporations, the United Nations launches the Unity to form a colony outside of the Sol System. Morgan Industries -- wealthy, but clearly losing their power as well -- funds the expedition.
  • 2285 CE
    • The world's major economic coalitions join forces to end the Corporate Wars, officially dismantling any remnants of non-corporate government on Earth and pushing most smaller corporations to the outer edges of the Sol System.
  • 2292 CE
    • The Lunar Mining Comission is created, in the hopes of obtaining all the resources the moon has to offer.

24th Century

  • A war begins between the Promelians and the Menthar near the planet Orelious IX. The conflict will eventually destroy the planet.
    • The Promelian battlecruiser Cleponji is captured by acteon assimilators in the debris field of Orelious IX.
  • The Ventaxians begin a thousand years of peace and prosperity.
  • Increased solar radiation causes a massive drought on the planet Kataan.
    • Realizing that their sun was about to go supernova, the residents of Kataan launch a probe containing the history of their civilization into space.
  • A group of humanoid travelers become stranded on the planet Meridian.
  • On Qo'nos, Kahless and Lukara fight the Battle of Qam-Chee.
  • The Hur'q attack Qo'nos and steal many of its cultural, historical artifacts.
    • During this period, the Klingons slay all of their gods.
  • The Vulcans cease to recognize the holiday of Rumarie.
  • The rulers of the Ramatis System are discovered to lack the genes for hearing. An elaborate system is developed which allows them to be heard, and to speak, through an interpretive chorus.
  • The people of Ardana use sustained anti-gravity to construct the floating city of Stratos.
  • A civil war begins on Daled IV.
  • The people of Mintaka III begin to rebel against the Overseer, relying instead on logic and rational thought.
  • Gomtuu makes contact with another of its own species.
  • A forcefield is erected around the planet Aldea.
  • The Nacene devastate the surface of Ocampa.
  • The Organians begin to observe humanoid life.

    • A food crisis begins on Earth.
    • By this time, the WEC is monitoring most aspects of each human individual's life.
    • A mutiny aboard the Unity causes the vessel to break apart and crash into the planet Chiron. Various factions emerge and fight for control of the planet. (Alpha Centauri begins.)

    • Two warring factions of Progenitors land on Chiron, complicating the brutal civil war the human colonists are waging even further. (Alien Crossfire begins.)

    • The Resistance is formed.

    • Income garnishments increase -- however, this is met with protests and the increase is dropped slightly.

    • Max Shee stars in a movie called The Associate Sub-Director's Daughter.

    • The original five corporate states that formed the WEC are abolished. A new cartel system replaces them.

    • Riots occur in Houston.

    • The WEC begins imprisoning dissidents. In the ensuing three years, 75,000 people will be arrested.

    • Allen Denning is transferred to Luna.
  • 2332 CE
    • The Resistance begins removing cameras and microphones from housing units in Ontario.
    • The Petra Insurrection occurs.
  • 2334 CE
    • Construction of the Vigilance Platform begins.
    • Petra attempts to secede from the WEC. They are swiftly annihilated.
      • This begins a four-day effort by the WEC to root out and destroy all Resistance cells.
    • August: The Resistance sabotages operations in London. Marian Liebnitz is arrested.
  • 2335 CE
    • Artificial gravity is finally mastered by human scientists.
  • 2336 CE
    • A trio of Silencers disobey orders. The WEC arranges an ambush to destroy them -- but one of them survives and defects to the Resistance. (Crusader: No Remorse begins.)
      • The Captain proves an effective operator for the Resistance -- destroying the Vigilance Platform.
      • After this, the Captain journeys to Luna and kills Chairman Draygan, putting a stop to the WEC's mining efforts.
  • 2337 CE
    • Recent discoveries by human scientists allow technology involving space travel to leap ahead by several decades. Terraforming technology, too, advances significantly.
  • 2338 CE
    • The Resistance successfully prevents the WEC from completing a second Vigilance Platform.
  • 2340 CE
    • It becomes apparent that corporate rule over Earth has put too much strain on the planet and that it is beginning to lose the ability to sustain life. Plans are put together to evacuate Earth.
  • 2342 CE
    • New terraforming technology is tested on Mars.
  • 2345 CE
    • Terraforming attempts begin on Venus and Luna.
  • 2347 CE
    • Terraforming attempts on Venus and Luna are declared abject failures, due to a lack of resources. Without the ability to terraform most of the Sol System, moving to anywhere within the system will be insufficient for saving the population of Earth.
  • 2348 CE
    • Mass riots break out across Earth.
    • The Global Exodus Alliance is formed, and rapidly takes control of infrastructure, police, military, and the private sector as well -- officially ending the reign of the WEC.
    • Plans are officially outlined for evacuating Earth to the 34Tauri star cluster.
  • 2350 CE
    • Samples are collected of all biological lifeforms on Earth.
  • 2372 CE
    • Dozens of robot terraforming ships are sent to the 34Tauri cluster to prepare the way for humanity's arrival.
  • 2375 CE
    • In order to accomodate more of Earth's population, cities are dismantled to expand the fleet of arks.
  • 2390 CE
    • Supplies, fuel, stored genetic material and other cargo begin to be loaded onto Earth's ark fleet.
  • 2394 CE
    • Earth's population has steeply declined under the rule of GEA and most of the residents of Earth live in squalor.
      • People begin boarding the ark fleet.
        • A black market develops that sells various ways to be permitted onto an ark.
  • 2395 CE
    • The GEA declares global martial law on Earth.
  • 2397 CE
    • The first ark ships depart for 34Tauri.
    • Several arks are lost in a wormhole -- leading them to the J Star Cluster.

25th Century

  • 2465 CE
  • 2484 CE
    • The Turei homeworld is rendered uninhabitable by plasma weapons. Six hundred Vaadwaur enter cryostasis, intending only to remain frozen for five cycles. They will be awoken in 892 cycles.

26th Century

  • Bajoran explorers construct a solar-sail vessel to explore their star system.
  • The Second Dynasty rules over the Klingon Empire, briefly.
    • Following the assassination of Emperor Reclaw, the empire is ruled by an elected council. This period is known as the "Dark Time" but lasts only ten years.
    • The Third Dynasty begins their reign, taking names of the original royal family in order to create an illusion that the bloodline is unbroken.
  • 2520 CE
    • The first robot terraformers reach 34Tauri. They begin terraforming the White Sun System, beginning with Londinium. More planets are terraformed in succession until just about every planet and moon in the star cluster is inhabited.
  • 2555 CE
    • Samara's three daughters are diagnosed as Ardat-Yakshi. Rila and Falere accept their exile, but Morinth flees. Samara pursues her for the next 430 cycles.
  • 2570 CE
    • The T-Rogorans become warp capable.
      • Shortly after this, the T-Rogorans conquer Skrreea.
  • 2571 CE
    • The Bajorans achieve interstellar flight, although the vessel crashlands on Cardassia Prime.

27th Century

  • 2600 CE
    • Raszagal becomes Matriarch of the Dark Templar.
  • 2680 CE
    • Aria L'Toak arrives on Omega and quickly become the most trusted lieutenant of the station's warlord.
  • 2695 CE
    • The Geth War begins: the geth become self-aware. Fearing an uprising, the quarians begin to dismantle them -- thus triggering the very revolt they had feared. The geth drive the quarians from their own worlds, forcing them to take up life as spacefaring nomads known as the Migrant Fleet.
      • The geth do not expand into the rest of the galaxy, but instead isolate themselves behind the Perseus Veil.
      • To punish the quarians for creating the geth, the Citadel Council closes their embassy.

28th Century

  • The T'Lani and Kellerun declare war on each other.
  • Neural parasites caused the population of Beta Portolan to descend into insanity.
  • Colonists from Peliar Zel first begin to inhabit their homeworld's two moons.
  • On the planet Ux-Mal, hundreds of criminals have their consciousnesses separated from their bodies and are then imprisoned on the moon Mab-Bu VI.
  • 2702 CE
    • Fenix is born.
  • 2710 CE
    • The planet Whittier is terraformed. It is the final planet to be terraformed in the 34Tauri cluster.
  • 2721 CE
    • The geth begin constructing a massive structure that would serve to house and run every geth program simultaneously, maximizing their efficiency. Completion of this structure is the ultimate goal of the geth.
  • 2743 CE
    • Tassadar is born.
  • 2759 CE
    • Construction begins on Serenity.
  • 2760 CE
    • Henry Evans is born.
  • 2767 CE
    • A war begins between the planets Eminiar VII and Vendikar. It is fought entirely in computer simulations.

    • An operation under the command of Derrial Book goes awry, and leads to a massacre of 4,000 people. He is discharged from the Alliance.

29th Century

  • The Cardassian Union is established.
  • The last war between the Denobulans and the Antarans occurs.
  • The last war occurs on 892-IV.
  • 2800 CE
    • River Tam is born.
    • The drell make first contact with the hanar, who launch a massive rescue operation to relocate the drell from Rakhana to Kahje. Only 375,000 drell are able to be rescued. The 11 billion remaining drell on Rakhana are doomed to perish, warring over the planet's dwindling resources.
  • 2804 CE
    • Derrial Book finds religion.
  • 2806 CE
    • The Miranda Project fails.
    • The Unification War begins.
    • Wu is born on Omega IV.
  • 2811 CE
    • The Union of Allied Planets wins the Unification War.
  • 2812 CE
    • Malcolm Reynolds hire Kaywinnet Frye to be the mechanic on Serenity.
  • 2814 CE
    • Jayne Cobb pulls a job on Higgins' Moon.
    • Derrial Book leaves Southdown Abbey.
  • 2816 CE
    • Jayne Cobb and two others attempt to hijack Serenity.

    • The origins of the Reavers and the truth of the Miranda Project are revealed.

    • The colonies of the Sol System have, by this point, managed to successfully terraform Earth and begun populating it once more. The efforts to repopulate the planet have also created a deep interest in the history of the planet, and national identities and celebrations of historical cultures become quite important once more.
  • 2829 CE
    • The United Powers League is established as the new government of Earth. 93% of the population agrees to their rule -- labeled as "enlightened socialism" but frequently resorting to fascist police tactics to maintain order.
  • 2831 CE
    • The United Powers League bans religion.
    • Doran Routhe, obsessed with founding colonies outside the Sol system -- like the ones established in the 34Tauri cluster, obtains 56,000 prisoners slated for mass execution under the edict of Project Purification. After screening them, 40,000 of them are deemed able to survive a one-year journey in cryogenic hibernation to Gantris VI. They are loaded into four supercarriers guided by a computer called ATLAS and propelled by a rough, inefficient version of the hetch drive.
      • Later, when the supercarriers are lost, the new faster-than-light system is generally blamed. Doran Routhe's career is ruined, and human research into faster-than-light travel is stalled for decades.
  • 2838 CE
    • Artanis is born.
  • 2850 CE
    • It is about this time that the Suliban homeworld becomes uninhabitable.
  • 2852 CE
    • A couple a married on Vega Reticuli. They will be married for at least 300 cycles.
  • 2859 CE
    • Due to a computer malfunction, Doran Routhe's four supercarriers passed Gantris VI -- proceeding to travel for 28 years and arriving roughly 60,000 light years from Earth.     • The United Powers League creates the UPL Armored Corps.

    • Humans and turians collaborate on a Citadel-sponsored project -- the creation of a frigate with an advanced stealth system. The result is the SSV Normandy. David Anderson is given command of the ship, and Shepard is the executive officer.
    • The Eden Prime War begins when Eden Prime is attacked by the geth. (Mass Effect begins.)
      • Shepard exposes a deeper plot by Saren Arterius under orders of Sovereign. Shepard manages to destroy Sovereign and prevent the release of the Reapers.

    • The Eden Prime War officially comes to an end.
    • Citadel first contact is made with the raloi. They are welcomed into the galactic community.
    • Terrorists release a biological weapon on Gagarin Station.
    • The MSV Estevanico is attacked by the Blood Pack and destroyed.
    • A clone of Shepard is stolen.
  • 2985 CE
    • Fehl Prime is attacked by the Collectors. Delta Squad manages to disable the Collector ship. James Vega rescues the asari Treeya -- for her vital information on the Collectors -- rather than to rescue the human colonists before the vessel crashes into the planet's surface.
    • Shepard is revived and tasked with investigating the disappearances of entire human colonies in the Terminus Systems. Shepard uncovers the Collectors' involvement, and ends the threat they pose. (Mass Effect 2)
    • March 28: A coalition of corporations invades the planet Garvug.
    • April 28: The Vallum Blast destroys much of the capital of Taetrus. The Turian Hierarchy and the colonial military declare war on the terrorists responsible.
    • August 11: Citadel first contact is made with a species of virtual aliens, who require assistance maintaining their supercomputer that keeps their civilization intact in exchange for advanced technology.
    • Liara T'Soni takes control of the Shadow Broker's organization, hoping to use it to aid in Shepard's fight against the Reapers.
    • December 7: The kirik are discovered on Ekram. Because they seem to have biotic potential, debates about whether or not to uplift them ensue.
    • The five ark ships of the Andromeda Initiative are launched.
  • 2986 CE
    • January 12: The asari discover a lost human colony in the Alpha Centauri system, believed to be the remnants of the Manswell Expedition. Contact is reestablished.
      • A bizarre energy field prevents the asari from discovering the fate of the human colonists on Chiron -- though the planet shows no signs of human life.
    • January 23: The SSV Budapest withdraws from the Bahak system.
      • Shortly after this, an asteroid is sent crashing into the system's mass relay. The explosion destroys the system -- an unfortunate side effect of slowing down the Reapers.
    • Cerberus captures Paul Grayson and implants him with Reaper technology.
      • The Reapers use Grayson to attack the Grissom Academy. He is killed by David Anderson and Kai Leng. Anderson and Kahlee Sanders keep his body to research how to combat the Reapers.
    • Shepard goes to trial for the destruction of the Bahak system. James Vega is recruited to guard the commander.
    • Cerberus takes control of the Omega station, and gains exclusive access to the Omega 4 Relay.

    • February: Tarsonis is overrun by zerg, and Sarah Kerrigan is placed in a chrysalis to be assimilated.
    • March: Arcturus Mengsk declares the Terran Dominion, and makes himself its emperor.
    • Though the Great War draws to a close frequent conflicts between humans, protoss, and zerg still occur.
    • The Brood War begins, and ends within the year after Sarah Kerrigan gains complete control over the zerg.

    • The Xindi Crisis: the Xindi launch a successful attack against Earth, killing seven million people. The Earth's allies in the Citadel (due to its current internal conflicts) and the Vulcans refuse to lend aid, so the Enterprise NX-01 is sent into the Delphic Expanse to resolve the crisis.

    • The influence on the Iconians on the events in both the Alpha Quadrant and Beta Quadrant become apparent.

    • The Nexus returns to the Milky Way.
    • While a peaceful summit between Klingons, Romulans, and the Federation commences elsewhere, the Undine launch an attack on Qo'nos and Earth.
    • The Klingon-Federation War ends in a ceasefire, in order to allow the two major powers to appropriately defend themselves against the Iconians.
    • Incursions from the Mirror Universe occur in the Alpha Quadrant.
    • The Na'kuhl launch hostilities against the major powers of the Beta Quadrant, and also appear ready to be preparing to engage in a temporal war.

  • Late in this century, one hundred Changelings return to the Great Link.
  • 2664 CE
    • The quarantine on Velara III is lifted, and the microbrains there reopen communication with the UFP.

41st Century

Interim

  • The United Federation of Planets is infiltrated by individuals from the Mirror Universe, who begin to corrupt it's true purpose. The Galactic Union falls apart.
  • War breaks out in the Milky Way, the devastating conflict leads to the United Federation of Planets being re-formed as the Terran Federation -- led by interlopers from the Mirror Universe.
    • Significant technology is lost as a result of the conflict, including transporter technology.
    • Many species of the Milky Way are wiped out during the war.
  • The Milky Way is invaded by Andromedans. The Terran Federation narrowly wins the Intergalactic War, but loses much of its territory and influence as a result.
  • The Terran Federation rebuilds itself through use of a Pacification Programme, using drugs to sedate populations of planets.
  • After hundreds of cycles, the Terran Federation finally collapses. A number of corporations take over in its absence -- the Galactic Authority acts as a puppet government for these corporate interests. (Dark Matter and Borderlands take place during this period.)

Dark Age of Technology

15th Millenium

  • The Dark Age of Technology begins. Some of the greatest scientific minds in mankind's history exist.
    • Human psykers known as Navigators are discovered -- using psionic powers, they prove capable of finding pathways through the Warp.
      • The Great Diaspora of Mankind: The ability to traverse the Warp makes travel across the Milky Way almost instantaneous. Humanity spreads across the galaxy, wiping out a number of species and taking over numerous planets as they go.
    • Human scientists create artificially intelligent robots known as the Men of Iron. They eventually rebel against their creators -- a devastating war occurs and the study and creation of artificial intelligence is outlawed on all human worlds.
    • Uncontrolled psionically powerful humans are overtaken by daemons from the Warp.

18th Millenium

  • The city of Commorragh is constructed within the Webway.
    • Eldar, seeking to avoid the attention of the Eldar Empire, escape to Commorragh to engage in hedonistic cult activities.
      • The hedonistic cults begin to rise in popularity, power, and influence. They take up permanent residence within the Webway.

19th Millenium

  • Worship of the traditional Eldar Gods begins to wane across the Eldar Empire as new sects rise to power. The Dark Muses become the new figureheads of the vice-obsessed religious order.

20th Millenium

  • The Eldar who live within the Webway, begin to steal suns from realspace to power their growing subspace civilization.
    • The star systems affected by these stolen suns wither and die. Millions of species are driven to extinction.

21st Millenium

  • 20001 CE
    • A terrible catastrophe occurs -- forcing humanity to build up weapons and military tactics to defend themselves.

22nd Millenium

  • Humankind first encounters and fights the Eldar and the Orks during this millenium -- both of which have become galactic superpowers in recent millenia. Humanity suffers heavy losses.
    • WAAAGH! Skragjaw nearly reaches Earth before it is thwarted.

23rd Millenium

  • The Knight Worlds manage to stand against the insanity that grips many human worlds, and their knightly orders battle daemons and other creatures from the Warp.

24th Millenium

  • Warp storms cut off the planets that will eventually become the homeworld of the Squats. These storms will last 5,000 cycles.
    • This separation causes the humans living on these worlds to adapt to their conditions -- evolving into Squats.

Age of Strife

25th Millenium

  • There is a massive increase in the number of humans born with psionic and biotic potential.
    • Many of these psykers, having no control over their abilities, unleash untold destruction on their homeworlds.
      • Psykers begin to be treated as pariahs, often called "witches".
      • Psykers make convenient hosts for daemonic entities seeking to escape the Warp.
  • Galaxy-wide warp storms make faster-than-light travel all but impossible.
  • The Standard Template Construct database is lost -- causing much of human history and technology to be lost with it.
  • The Horiax Treatise -- an ancient text describing advanced genetic engineering -- is found. The technology required, however, is lost.
  • Due to the hedonism of the Eldar, a new entity begins forming the Immaterium.

29th Millenium

  • The Squats are betrayed by the Orks and the Eldar.
  • The Eldar, heeding warning from the Slann, create Craftworlds to save their species.
  • The galactic warp storms end, but by this point faster-than-light travel has been lost by virtually every species remaining in the Milky Way.

Age of the Imperium

30th Millenium

  • The Eldar Exodus: preparing for the destruction of their race, a portion of the Eldar population escapes the corruption of the Eldar Empire by boarding Craftworlds.
  • The Chaos God Slaanesh is born out of the psionic energy created by the hedonism and pleasure-seeking excess of the Eldar living within the Warp.
  • Simultaneous to the birth of Slaanesh, human psykers launch a psionic attack upon the Q Continuum -- hoping to take their subspace realm and create a safe haven for others like themselves.
    • The violence of this act -- in combination with the violent energy released into the Eldar Empire by Slaanesh's birth -- causes a region of space in the heart of the Eldar Empire to sink into the Warp, creating the rift known as the Eye of Terror.
  • The Age of War: The Age of Trade between the Eldar, the Orks, and the Squats comes to an abrupt end after nearly three millenia after Grunhag the Flayer leads an assault on the Squat homeworlds. The Squats appeal to the Eldar for help but none arrives.
  • 29540 CE
    • Discovery of Mezoa: The planet Mezoa is discovered in the Cyclops Cluster. It is claimed as an outpost of the Lucien Mechanicum and becomes an independent forge world.
  • 29570 CE
    • Exploration of Mandragoran Stars begins: Lady Arica Orpheus explores the Mandragoran region of the galaxy, cataloging countless dead worlds and aged stars. The exploration of this region lasts through 29750 CE.
  • 29675 CE
    • The Massacre of Gaduare: in under an hour's time, less than 5,000 Thunder Warriors slaughter 50,000 militiamen in Gaduare, Franc.
  • 29745 CE
    • On Terra, the Emperor of Mankind and the Legio Custodes eradicate the last church -- the Church of the Lightning Stone. This ushers in a secular age and belief in the "Imperial Truth".
  • 29748 CE
    • The flagship of the Dark Angels, the Invincible Reason, begins its service to the Imperium of Man.
  • 29750 CE
    • The Primarch Project: the Emperor of Mankind begins to craft genetically perfect Primarchs, but their gestation capsules are taken into the Warp by the Chaos Gods and scattered across the Milky Way.
    • The Exploration of Mandragoran Stars ends.
  • 29780 CE
    • The First Founding: 20 legions of genetically engineered Space Marines are founded.
  • Unknown Dates
    • Sa'afrik Liberation: the first recorded engagement of the World Eaters, although after this victory the Emperor of Mankind seems to have been reserved in his use of Space Marines during the Unification Wars.
    • Pacification of the Cephic HIves: the War Hounds earn their name by doggedly combatting the residents of the sprawling Cephic Hives.
  • 29790 CE
    • The Incaladion Conflcit: the planet of Incaladion is divided between warring factions and becomes a global battleground.
    • The First Pacification of Luna: the combined forces of the Imperial Fists, Ultramarines, and Luna Wolves engage in a conflict with Luna to bring the satellite's residents to heel under the Emperor of Mankind. The conflict lasts six hours, and ends in a victory for the Space Marines.
  • 29798 CE
    • The Unification Wars end, and the Imperium of Man is now in control of the entirety of Terra.
    • The Great Crusade begins: The Imperium of Man seeks to spread its influence out across the entirety of the Milky Way and to unite all human worlds under the reign of the Emperor of Mankind.
    • The Pacification of the Boetian Lowlands: the Thousand Sons legion is created to combat any rebels left on Terra after the Unification Wars. They swiftly bring the nation of Boetia to heel.
    • The Unheard War: the Azurite Stations of Uranus become embroiled in a conflict with space pirates. 50 Imperial Fists arrive at the station to battle the pirates, and ultimately sacrifice themselves and the station in order to prevent a terrible and ancient psionic weapon from wreaking havoc on humanity.

    • Cerberus Insurrection: the asteroid prison colony of Cerberus revolts, descending into mob violence. The anarchistic movement is quelled by the War Hounds legion and the XXII regiment of the Imperialis Auxilla.
  • 29800 CE
    • The Consus Drift Compliance: the 3rd Expeditionary Fleet, under the command of the Imperial Fists, discovers the the Consus Drift and conquers the Driftborn, forcing them into imperial submission.
  • 29803 CE
    • The Flesh Change: the Thousand Sons begin to develop psychic abilities. Use of Warp-derived psychic powers, however, begins to mutate some of them -- and ultimately one even transformed into a mindless Chaos Spawn.
    • The Paramar System is discovered. It will become a waypoint for further Imperial exploration into the Segmentum Obscurus.
    • First contact is made between the Imperium of Man the Ak'Haireth. The Ak'Haireth are wiped out by the Luna Wolves and the Night Lords.
  • 29805 CE
    • The Treaty of Olympus Mons is signed, bringing peace between Terra and Mars.
    • The Primarch Horus Lupercal is discovered on the planet Cthonia.
    • The Siege of Reillis: the Emperor of Mankind and Horus Lupercal fight together at Reillis. Horus is wounded in the battle, and the Emperor protects him until reinforcements arrived.
  • 29806 CE
    • The Gorro Hollowing: the Emperor of Mankind leads an assault on an Ork empire that is centered on Gorro. During the height of the battle, Horus Lupercal saves the Emperor from a monstrous Ork.
    • The Compliance of the Osiris Cluster: the Ultramarines discover the Osiris Cluster and bring the inhabitants under Imperial control with relatively little bloodshed.
  • 29807 CE
    • The Primarch Leman Russ is discovered, having been raised by wolves on the planet Fenris.
    • The Battle of Rust: The X Legion leads an invasion of the Krooked-Klaw Empire.
    • War in the Shedim Drifts: Horus Lupercal commands a battle against marauding Eldar Craftworlds. Though the battle is a victory, Lupercal sacrifices the Legio Atarus to accomplish it.
  • 29810 CE
    • The Emperor of Mankind finds the Primarch Ferrus Manus on the planet Medusa. Manus quickly establishes himself the leader of a legion of Space Marines -- the Iron Hands (who formally adopt that name at this time.)
  • 29813 CE
    • Mezoa joins the Imperium of Man.
  • 29824 CE
    • Lethe is contacted by Vaspperly Elgin.
  • 29829 CE
    • The Proximan Rebellion: one of the earliest recorded engagements of the III Legion. The Emperor of Mankind was wounded in the battle, but the sacrifice of many Space Marines allowed him time to escape.
  • 29830 CE
    • The Gene-Seed Crisis: almost the entire stock of the III Legion's gene-seed is lost in a crash on Luna shortly before a virus threatens the gene-seed stock on Terra.
    • Reports of Space Marines who answer to no master are first heard. Sparse fragments of anomalous Legiones Astartes activity is recorded. Both are attributed to a "Ghost Legion".
    • The Praxil Rebellion begins. This ultimately ends in victory for the Imperium of Man.

    • Primarch Fulgrim is found on the planet Chemos, and is soon after given command of the III Legion.
