A basic timeline of the Milky Way.

KEY

• Events from Farscape, and The Expanse have not had their dates adjusted from canon.
• Events from Warhammer 40k have not had their dates changed, however, some of the backstory dates have been adjusted.
• Events from Crusader have had their dates moved 140 years into the future from canon.

The Beginning

• The universe is formed in the "Big Bang", an event theorized to be caused by unstable Omega molecules.
  • The Q Continuum use this point in history as a hiding place.
• The C'Tan come into being.
• The Old Ones are the preeminent species in charge of the galaxy. They build a network of warp gates.
  • The Slann create and/or guide a number of species throughout the galaxy. Many of these comes to be servant races to the Old Ones.
• The xel'naga take form and enter this universe.

The War in Heaven

• The Necrontyr expand into space, encounter the Old Ones, and begin a war against them. The Necrontyr are easily defeated and return to their own worlds.
• The C'Tan encounter the Necrontyr, and have necrodermis bodies constructed.
  • The C'Tan convince the Necrontyr to adopt necrodermis bodies.
• The C'Tan and the Necrons engage in war against the Old Ones.
  • The Old Ones create a number of psionically powerful species to help them fight their enemies. These include the Eldar, the krork, and others.
  • Enslavers and other horrors from the Immaterium escape into the Materium through the Old Ones' webway.
    • Beset from all sides by the C'Tan, the Necrons, and the horrific monstrosities from the Immaterium, the Old Ones are eventually defeated and vanish from the galaxy. Their creations continue to fight against C'Tan and the Necrons.
  • The Necrons betray the C'Tan, displacing them from reality.
• The Necrons enter a long cryostasis in their tomb world.

Age of Xel'naga

• The xel'naga, obsessed with genetic modification, seed life on worlds across the Milky Way. They construct their own network of warp gates.
• The xel'naga encounter the Argus Stone, and hold it in high regards due to its incredible power. Xel'naga scholars predict the events of the Great War.
• The xel'naga discover an evil entity and use the power of the Void to imprison it within a barren planet orbiting a dead star.

The Last Cycle

• The natural life cycle of the xel'naga begins to reach its conclusion. In order to ensure their survival, they begin to seek out a race with purity of form and another with purity of essence.
  • Unable to find a species pure of form, the xel'naga begin to guide the evolution of the dominant species of Aiur -- dubbing them the "protoss". The protoss eventually reach a point of total sentience and self-awareness.
    • The xel'naga reveal themselves to the protoss.
    • Protoss society spreads across Aiur, but places more emphasis on individual achievement. They begin to lose their psionic capabilities
      • The xel'naga depart Aiur, disappointed in their creations. The protoss attack the xel'naga worldships, but to little effect.
      • The Aeon of Strife begins.
  • The xel'naga discover the planet Zerus, and begin to modify the prominent species on that planet into a species that is pure of essence. To avoid the mistakes that took place with the protoss, they create the Overmind to act as a collective zerg sentience.
    • Fall of the Xel'naga: The Overmind sends zerg to attack the xel'naga, destroying much of the species.

Age of Leviathans

• The Leviathans come to dominate the galaxy, enthralling all sentient species they encounter. In exchange for tribute, they offer protection.
• After witnessing the synthetic races rise up against the races who created them, the Leviathans create an Intelligence to permanently protect organic life.
  • The Intelligence creates "pawns" who to gather genetic material, and then sends these pawns to slaughter Leviathans and gather their genetic material.
    • The Harbringer -- the first Reaper -- is built out of Leviathan genetic materials. Thus begins a cyclical harvesting of organic material in the Milky Way.
    • The Intelligence constructs a mass relay network -- similar to the pre-existing networks of warp gates -- to allow civilizations to spread across the galaxy faster.

Billions of Years Ago

• 9,000,000,000 BCE
  • A black cluster is formed when hundreds of protostars collapse in on themselves.
• 5,000,000,000 BCE
  • Female Q is born.
  • The star Sol begins to form.
• 4,500,000,000 BCE
  • The Guardian of Forever is asked its last question until James T. Kirk will discover it in the 33rd century.
  • Ancient humanoids begin seeding worlds with their DNA, eventually leading to the evolution of humanoids on many worlds including Vulcan, Denea, Earth, Q'onos, and many others.
• 4,000,000,000 BCE
  • The planet Pollux IV forms.
  • Q and Q begin a romantic relationship.
• 2,000,000,000 BCE
  • A civilization flourishes on Tagus III.
• 1,000,000,000 BCE
  • The Leviathan of Dis, a Reaper, is killed by Leviathans. Its corpse comes to rest on planet Jartar.
  • As the Leviathans decline, the Slaver Empire emerges -- enslaving vast swaths of the Milky Way. Eventually the Slavers and a number of other species are wiped out in a tremendous and catastrophic war.

First Age

Pre-Prothean Times

• The inhabitants of Organia evolve into beings of pure energy.

Millions of Years Ago

• The Organians evolve past the need for physical bodies.
• 300,000,000 BCE
  • A magnetic organism invades a spaceship. The aliens aboard disable their vessel in orbit of Questar M-17 to prevent the organism from spreading.
• 37,000,000 BCE
  • An unknown species fires an accelerator round at a Reaper -- the round disables the Reaper and passes through it, traveling through space until it strikes the planet Klendagon. The Great Rift Valley is formed.

• 87,000,000 BCE
  • The D'Arsay Archive is launched into space.

• 65,000,000 BCE
  • The dominant species on Earth -- the dinosaurs -- and several other species are wiped out in an asteroid strike.
    • Some of the dinosaurs manage to survive and continue evolving into the Voth. Some time thereafter. they depart Earth and settle in the Delta Quadrant.

• 20,000,000 BCE
  • Voth history in the Delta Quadrant begins.

• 1,000,000 BCE
  • A vast city is constructed around the Guardian of Forever.

Hundreds of Thousands of Years Ago

• 600,000 BCE
  • The Tkon Empire collapses.
  • The galaxy is colonized by Sargon's ancestors.

• 500,000 BCE
  • Civilization begins to flourish on Bajor.
  • Sargon's species is destroyed in a massive civil war which literally rips the atmosphere from their planet. A handful of survivors begin to live underground.
  • Exo III becomes nearly uninhabitable as its sun enters decline. The inhabitants relocate underground and build androids to serve them.
  • The Talosians develop warp drives.

• 298,000 BCE
  • The arthenn civilization flourishes in the Zelene System, until they are destroyed. Few clues as to the events that destroyed them exist, though the planet Epho bears the scars of an orbital bombardment.

• 200,000 BCE
  • The homeworld of Iconians suffers from an orbital bombardment which is believed to have destroyed the species.
  • The "telepathic pitcher plant" is born in the Delta Quadrant.

• 125,000 BCE
  • The thoi'han and the inusannon fight over the planet Eingana, and debris from their starships are scattered across the planet. Refined element zero contaminates the planet -- eradicating much of the native life. The creatures that survive have a tendency to develop biotic powers.

• 100,000 BCE
  • A subspace network is constructed in the Delta Quadrant.
  • An ocean planet is constructed by taking all of the water from a Class M planet and containing it inside a force field.

Pre-Council Times (BCE)

Tens of Thousands of Years Ago

• 68,000 BCE
  • The Protheans achieve space flight and discover mass effect technology in inusannon ruins. They begin to construct a galaxy-spanning empire through use of the mass relay network, with the Citadel as their capital.
    • At some unknown point after this, the Protheans encounter a hostile race of machine intelligences whom they battle in the Metacon War. They manage to fend off the threat.

• 49,000 BCE
  • The Horta of Janus VI begin a cycle of rebirth.
  • Bele begins to chase Lokai for beginning a civil war on Cheron.

• 48,000 BCE
  • The Fall of the Protheans: Though the Protheans had learned of the existence of Reapers and had begun to prepare themselves, they are caught off-guard when the Reapers arrive through the Citadel. The Protheans are wiped out by the Reapers, as are many other races at this time.

• 41,600 BCE
  • The "Sky Spirits" visit Earth, revealing themselves to the people who will become the indigenous tribes of South America.

• 30,000 BCE
  • The Eidelons, in need of a guard, abduct humans and genetically modify them into Sebaceans. These Sebaceans form the Peacekeepers. The Eidelons also genetically craft the Interions.
• 29,000 BCE
  • The Verathan civilization reaches its height, spanning two dozen star systems.
  • An ancient city, containing the Reckoning Tablet, is built on Bajor.

• 21,000 BCE
  • The Trill begin their life as a joined species.

• 16,600 BCE
  • It is about this time that the Bajoran city of B'hala is lost.
  • Bajorans begin to celebrate the Bajoran Gratitude Festival.

• 13,000 BCE
  • About this time, the turians and Palaven begin to develop civilizations.

• 11,000 BCE
  • The Master of Tarquin Hill on Kurl creates the naiskos.
  • The krogan homeworld of Tuchanka enters the nuclear age.
    • A global conflict occurs, and a nuclear winter begins. The krogans devolve into warring clans

• 10,000 BCE
  • Unknown enemies of the Eidelons activate the Darnaz Triangle on Arnessk, forcing the Eidelon priests to enter temporal stasis -- disappearing from history.

Thousands of Years Ago

• The Progenitors build the Custodian on the planet Aldea.
• 9,000 BCE
  • The Fabrini leaves their system on the Yonada in order to escape their sun's supernova.
  • Vaal is built on Gamma Trianguli VI.
  • The civilization of Sigma Draconis VI suffers from a catastrophic ice age, which causes the inhabitants to devolve.
  • Gomtuu becomes the last survivor of his species.
  • The Q of the Q Continuum no longer need to speak to each other.
  • The Founders find a new homeworld for themselves and found the Dominion.
  • The Ferengi discover currency and concept of profit. The first Grand Nagus writes the Rules of Acquisition.
  • Bajoran archaeologists begin searching for B'hala.

• 8,000 BCE
  • The Zakdorn earns a reputation as a brilliant strategist.
  • The first of the Chaos Gods is born within the Warp.
• 7,268 BCE
  • With their sun about to supernova, the Fabrini leave their system on the Yonada.
• 7,000 BCE
  • An immortal human who will become the Emperor of Mankind is born. He has the most potent psionic capabilities of any being in the Milky Way, but primarily stays behind the scenes in the development of mankind.

• 6,000 BCE
  • An alien race, seeking to escape the impending explosion of their sun, uploads one billion of their consciousnesses onto supercomputers stored on an AI-controlled starship. The vessels begins to traverse the galaxy on a journey that will last more than 8,000 cycles.

• 5,000 BCE
  • The Aldeans construct a massive cloaking device to hide their planet.

• 2,733 BCE
  • Landru of Beta III brings peace to his people, and constructs a supercomputer to guide and protect his people after his death.

• 2,700 BCE
  • Earth is visited by aliens who are worshipped as gods by the ancient Greeks.

• 2,600 BCE
  • The Egyptians, humans from Earth, build the pyramids of Giza.
    • Time traveling anthropologists from the future observe their construction.

• 1,700 BCE
  • Sarpeidon experiences an ice age. This point in time is frequently used to exile people to by future natives of the planet.
  • The Vulcans are a war-like, savage race who are nearing the brink of self-annihilation.

• 1,500 BCE
  • The Vulcans begin working to supress their emotions.

• 1,100 BCE
  • The krogan homeworld of Tuchanka enters the nuclear age.
    • A global conflict occurs, and a nuclear winter is triggered. Krogan society devolves into warring clans.

• 1,000 BCE
  • A supernova pushes the Mu Relay out of position, effectively cutting off the remote Pangaea Expanse from the rest of the galaxy. The rachni will later discover this relay.

• 800 BCE
  • The Xindi-Avians construct a hidden fortress on a planet that will one day house the Xindi Council.

• 400 BCE
  • Survivors from the Sahndara System's supernova reach Earth, and encounter the Greek philosophers. They are deeply impressed, and will go on to name their new homeworld Platonius.

Pre-Council Times (CE)

First Century

Second Century

• 100 CE
  • A group of Sebaceans break away from the Peacekeepers, colonizing the Uncharted Territories and founding the Breakaway Colonies.
  • The protoss Sevassan and Temlaa discover the Khaydarin Crystals, and reawaken the telepathic powers of the Shelak Tribe. This starts the Khala, and begins the end of the Aeon of Strife.
  • With the khala underway, the slumbering xel'naga of Ulnar awaken and travel to Zerus. A massive battle ensues, with a swarm of zerg attacking the Ulnar xel'naga and decimating their numbers. They still manage to force Amon back into the Void.
• 150 CE
  • The Vulcan monastery of P'Jem is constructed.

Third Century

• 220 CE
  • The asari develop faster-than-light technology based on Prothean technology. They begin exploring the galaxy, and discover the Citadel.

• 270 CE
  • The Kalandan outpost is constructed.

• 280 CE
  • The salarians discover the Citadel and open diplomatic relations with the asari.

Council Era - Formation

Fourth Century

• 300 CE (0 GS)
  • The Citadel Council is formed by the asari and salarians, who colonize the Citadel and establish the Galactic Standard calendar.
    • As a gesture of openness to the asari, the salarians open the records of the League of One. In retaliation, the League assassinates every member of the inner cabinet of the Salarian Union. The League of One is then hunted down and eradicated.
    • First contact is made with the volus, who are eventually tasked with drawing up the Unified Banking Act -- establishing credits as the galactic currency.
      • The volus are rewarded by having the first embassy at the Citadel.
    • First contact is made with the batarians.
    • First contact is made with the hanar and the quarians, who will both eventually be given embassies as well.
  • The Turian Unification War begins.
  • The asari discover the elcor home system, activating their nearest mass relay. The elcor will soon become regular trade partners with the Citadel Council and be granted an embassy.

Fifth Century

• 400 CE
  • The batarians are granted an embassy at the Citadel.

Sixth Century

• 500 CE
  • Trakor, a Bajoran prophet, first encounters the Orb of Prophecy and Chance, and writes a numbers of prophecies about the Emissary of the Prophets.

Council Era - War

Ninth Century

• 800 CE
  • The Rachni Wars begin: first contact with the rachni proves them to be a hostile race. Negotiation is impossible due to the harsh environment of the worlds where the rachni queens live.

• 880 CE
  • The salarians make first contact with the krogan and manipulate them into fighting as soldiers for the Citadel Council. The krogan are able to survive on the rachni homeworlds and begin a campaign of eradicating the rachni queens.

Tenth Century

• 956 CE
  • Parmen is born on Platonius.

• 967 CE
  • Philana is born on Platonius.

• 997 CE
  • Philana stops aging at 30 cycles old.

11th Century

• 1000 CE
  • Some time before this date, the Luxans and the Ilanics become allies.
  • The Charrids invade the Hynerian Empire, killing a billion Hynerians and eating a million of their young.

• 1085 CE
  • Parmen and Philana are married on Platonius.

The Second Age

Council Era - Rebellion

12th Century

• 1100 CE
  • The protoss are finally unified. They begin to expand their civilization across the galaxy.
    • The newly formed Conclave seals away all references to the Aeon of Strife, hiding them on Zhakul.
  • The rachni are declared extinct by the Citadel Council. They reward the krogan with a new homeworld.
    • Now free of Tuchanka's harsh environment, the krogan population explodes. As a result, the krogan begin colonizing other planets.
      • Concerned about the krogan expansion, the Citadel Council forms the Special Tactics and Reconassaince branch.

13th Century

• Spock's ancestors adopt ceremonial ground that remains in their family for at least the next ten centuries.
• The society of 892-IV (later known as Magna Roma) in an example of Hodgkin's Law of Parallel Planetary Development.

14th Century

• A destructive war occurs on Vulcan, with powerful nuclear weapons deployed. It is a savage war even by Earth standards. A weapon called the Stone of Gol that kills with psionic powers is used.
  • This war is followed by the Time of Awakening: Surak leads the Vulcans to a path of peace and logic.
    • A group of Vulcans who do not follow Surak's teachings leave Vulcan and eventually become the Romulans. An offshoot of the Romulans, the Debrune, establish an outpost on Barradas III.
• The Jem'Hadar begin serving as the Dominion's front line of defense.
• The disease called the Phage ravages the Vidilians. They survive by harvesting organs from other races.
• The native people of Golona become extinct.

15th Century

• 1493 CE
  • Beelo Gurji is appointed first Spectre by the Citadel Council.

• 1499 CE
  • Dominar Rygel XVI is born.

16th Century

• 1500 CE
  • The Krogan Rebellion begins: Krogan warlords use veterans of the Rachni Wars to annex space from other Citadel races. The krogan refuse to withdraw from the asari colony of Lusia, so the Spectres strike at krogan infrastructure.
    • The Council makes contact with the turians at about this time -- and persuades them to help fight against the krogan. The krogan retaliate by attacking turian colonies with weapons of mass destruction.

• 1501 CE
  • A Jocacean monastery becomes the site of a historic battle between the Venek Horde and the Peacekeepers. A group of time travelers interfere, leading to the slaughter of the innocent women and children within the monastery.
    • In the timeline, unaltered by time travel, the Peacekeepers and the Venek Horde negotiated a peace treaty.

• 1510 CE
  • The turians unleash a bio-weapon called the genophage, engineered by salarians, to decimate the krogan population. It is a success, and the krogan population begins to decline.

17th Century

• Guinan's father is born.
• 1600 CE
  • The Krogan Rebellion ends, although some insurgent actions continue for decades to come. The turians fill the military vacancy left by the krogan.
    • The Citadel Conventions are drawn up.

• 1650 CE
  • Elack is bonded to his Pilot.

Citadel Era - Expansion

18th Century

• 1700 CE
  • Literacy becomes prominent in Luxan culture.
  • Br'Nee's people seed an asteroid with plant life.
  • The turians are granted a seat on the Citadel Council as a reward for their aid during the Krogan Rebellion.

• 1709 CE
  • Noranti Pralatong is born.

• 1750 CE
  • Zotoh Zhaan kills Bitaal for his part in a Peacekeeper-assisted coup. She is arrested and imprisoned by Peacekeepers.

• 1767 CE
  • After seventeen cycles of meditation, Zotoh Zhaan overcomes her own dark impulses.

19th Century

• Kahless the Unforgettable unites the Klingons after defeating Molor and the Fek'lhri. A strict warrior code is established.
• The Nacene expedition reaches the Milky Way.
• A terrible war begins on Solais V. It will continue into the 34th century.
• The society of Kaelon II adopts the custom of the Resolution.

• 1822 CE
  • On Earth, the Rosetta Stone helps archaeologists begin to decipher ancient languages. This event would remain a cornerstone in Earth history for centuries to come.
• 1863 CE
  • The Skagarans abduct a large number of humans and horses from Earth to serve as slaves. After they land on a planet in the Delphic Expanse, the humans overthrow their Skagaran overseers and found their own colony, which remains a stagnant Western society for centuries to come.

• 1868 CE
  • Bishan overthrows Rygel XVI. The deposed Dominar is imprisoned aboard the Peacekeeper command carrier known as the Zelbinion where he is tortured by Captain Selto Durka.
• 1890 CE
  • Guinan takes up residence on Earth about this time.
• 1893 CE
  • Time traveling, shape-shifting Devidians use a cholera outbreak to hide their efforts to steal neural energy. The crew of the USS Enterprise-D time travel to stop the attack.

• 1899 CE
  • Some time shortly after the transfer of Rygel XVI to another ship, the Zelbinion is defeated by the Nebari. Selto Durka is taken captive and subjected to one hundred cycles of mind-cleansing.

20th Century

• 1916 CE
  • In an unrealized reality, Vladimir Lenin is assassinated.
• 1930 CE
  • The Klingons become warp capable about this time.
• 1945 CE
  • June 26: The United Nations is formed on Earth.
• 1947 CE
  • A Ferengi shuttle from the future crashlands on Earth. The government of the United States covers up the incident.

• 1957 CE
  • October 4: The Soviet Union launches Sputnik I, humanity's first man-made satellite, into orbit.

• 1961 CE
  • April 12: Yuri Gagarin becomes the first human to travel in space, aboard the Vostok 1.

• 1969 CE
  • Ka D'Argo is born.
  • John Crichton is born.
  • July 20: Apollo 11 lands on Luna, Neil Armstrong becomes the first human to walk on the moon -- or any astronomical object other than Earth.
• 1971 CE
  • Salyut, the first human space station, is launched into the orbit of Earth.

• 1976 CE
  • Moya is born.

• 1978 CE
  • ro-NA enters the service of the Royal Family of the Breakaway Colonies.

• 1979 CE
  • Joolushko Tunai Fenta Hovalis and her cousins are put into cryogenic tubes. They are sold to Grunchlk soon after.

• 1985 CE
  • A time traveling, adult John Crichton corrects alterations to the timeline, preventing his father from being assigned to the Challenger mission.
  • A young John Crichton loses his virginity to Karen Shaw.

• 1986 CE
  • The space shuttle Challenger disintegrates 73 seconds after launching.
  • Ka D'Argo fights the Scorvians as a member of the Luxan Army.
    • Ka D'Argo meets Lo'Laan Tal during the campaign.

• 1991 CE
  • Lo'Laan Tal is murdered by her brother, Macton Tal, but Ka D'Argo is framed for the crime.
    • Ka D'Argo sends his son Ka Jothee away to keep him safe.
    • Ka D'Argo is imprisoned by the Peacekeepers.

• 1993 CE
  • Scorpius enters the service of Staleek, though he is insincere in his loyalty.

• 1995 CE
  • Leslie Crichton dies in the hospital.

• 1996 CE
  • The Ilanic/Scorvian War begins.

• 1997 CE
  • Bialar Crais commands a project to breed a Leviathan biomechanoid gunship hybrid.
    • During the course of the project, Aeryn Sun has a romantic affair with Tam Velorek.
      • Tam Velorek reveals to Aeryn Sun that he sabotaged the project -- she, in turn, reports this to Bialar Crais in return for being reassigned back to Prowler duty.

• 1998 CE
  • Scorpius imprisons Stark at the Gammak Base.

• 1999 CE
  • John Crichton, piloting the Farscape-1 module, launches on a mission to test acceleration theory. He passes through a wormhole to a remote region of the Delta Quadrant. (Farscape begins.)

21st Century

• All life on the planet Zetar is wiped out in a war. Roughly 100 of the inhabitants managed to remain in existence as thoughtwaves.
• Within this century, humpback whales and draco lizards have gone extinct on Earth.
• NASA launches the interstellar probe Nomad.
• 2000 CE
  • Talyn is born.
  • The Gammak Base is destroyed.
  • Bialar Crais defects from the Peacekeepers.
  • Scorpius orders the deaths of hundreds of slaves in order to kill Ka Jothee -- this plan fails and Ka D'Argo is finally reunited with his son.

• 2001 CE
  • January 1: Construction of the Millenium Gate begins.
  • Zotoh Zhaan sacrifices her life for the crew of Moya.
  • Joolushko Tunai Fenta Hovalis is revived from stasis and joins the crew of Moya.
  • John Crichton, Chiana, and Ka D'Argo are twinned by Kaarvok -- only the Crichton twins survive.
  • One of the Crichton twins dies preventing the Scarrans from obtaining wormhole technology.
  • Bialar Crais and Talyn sacrifice themselves to destroy Scorpius' command carrier.

• 2002 CE
  • The Darnaz Triangle is reactivated -- freeing the Eidelons from temporal stasis.

• 2003 CE
  • Moya reaches Earth through a wormhole -- though the crew leaves some months later, with Crichton still onboard.

• 2004 CE
  • Crichton destroys the wormhole between the Uncharted Territories and Earth.
  • The Peacekeeper/Scarran War occurs.
    • The Ilanic/Scorvian War is absorbed into this much larger conflict, effectively ending it.
    • The Eidelon Temple at Arnessk is destroyed.
      • Joolushko Tunai Fenta Hovalis is killed.
    • The Battle of Qujaga occurs.
      • Ka D'Argo is killed.
      • D'Argo Sun-Crichton is born.
      • John Crichton activates a wormhole weapon to force an end to the war.
    • The Peacekeeper/Scarran Accord is formed.
  • Rygel XVI reclaims the throne of the Hynerian Empire.
  • The Whaela'an Virus infects much of the Delta Quadrant.
  • Jonathan Archer and T'Pol time travel to this year to prevent Xindi-Reptillians from creating and using a bioweapon.

• 2005 CE
  • Moya and Cilla join forces.
  • Noranti Pralatong undergoes a metamorphasis.
  • The Kkore Invasion Fleet launches a devastating assault of the Uncharted Territories.
    • The incursion is defeated by use of the powerful Dej-Wah ritual, wielded by an alliance of the species from the region.
• 2012 CE
  • Construction of the Millenium Gate is completed.

  • The Turei homeworld is rendered uninhabitable by plasma weapons. Six hundred Vaadwaur enter cryostasis, intending only to remain frozen for five cycles. They will be awoken in 892 cycles.

• Bajoran explorers construct a solar-sail vessel to explore their star system.
• The Second Dynasty rules over the Klingon Empire, briefly.
  • Following the assassination of Emperor Reclaw, the empire is ruled by an elected council. This period is known as the "Dark Time" but lasts only ten years.
  • The Third Dynasty begins their reign, taking names of the original royal family in order to create an illusion that the bloodline is unbroken.

  • The first robot terraformers reach 34Tauri. They begin terraforming the White Sun System, beginning with Londinium. More planets are terraformed in succession until just about every planet and moon in the star cluster is inhabited.

  • The Geth War begins: the geth become self-aware. Fearing an uprising, the quarians begin to dismantle them -- thus triggering the very revolt they had feared. The geth drive the quarians from their own worlds, forcing them to take up life as spacefaring nomads known as the Migrant Fleet.
    • The geth do not expand into the rest of the galaxy, but instead isolate themselves behind the Perseus Veil.
    • To punish the quarians for creating the geth, the Citadel Council closes their embassy.

28th Century

• The T'Lani and Kellerun declare war on each other.
• Neural parasites caused the population of Beta Portolan to descend into insanity.
• Colonists from Peliar Zel first begin to inhabit their homeworld's two moons.
• On the planet Ux-Mal, hundreds of criminals have their consciousnesses separated from their bodies and are then imprisoned on the moon Mab-Bu VI.

  • The drell make first contact with the hanar, who launch a massive rescue operation to relocate the drell from Rakhana to Kahje. Only 375,000 drell are able to be rescued. The 11 billion remaining drell on Rakhana are doomed to perish, warring over the planet's dwindling resources.

The efforts to repopulate the planet have also created a deep interest in the history of the planet, and national identities and celebrations of historical cultures become quite important once more.

  • The United Powers League is established as the new government of Earth. 93% of the population agrees to their rule -- labeled as "enlightened socialism" but frequently resorting to fascist police tactics to maintain order.

• 2831 CE
  • The United Powers League bans religion.
  • Doran Routhe, obsessed with founding colonies outside the Sol system -- like the ones established in the 34Tauri cluster, obtains 56,000 prisoners slated for mass execution under the edict of Project Purification. After screening them, 40,000 of them are deemed able to survive a one-year journey in cryogenic hibernation to Gantris VI. They are loaded into four supercarriers guided by a computer called ATLAS and propelled by a rough, inefficient version of the hetch drive.
    • Later, when the supercarriers are lost, the new faster-than-light system is generally blamed. Doran Routhe's career is ruined, and human research into faster-than-light travel is stalled for decades.

  • Artanis is born.
• 2850 CE
  • It is about this time that the Suliban homeworld becomes uninhabitable.
• 2852 CE
  • A couple a married on Vega Reticuli. They will be married for at least 300 cycles.

• 2859 CE
  • Due to a computer malfunction, Doran Routhe's four supercarriers passed Gantris VI -- proceeding to travel for 28 years and arriving roughly 60,000 light years from Earth. The engines of the supercarriers reach critical meltdown and emergency protocols are enacted. The four vessels crash on four separate planets in the Koprulu Sector.
    • The protoss begin observing the new arrivals to their sector.

• 2869 CE
  • The United Powers League has gained governmental control of the entire Sol system.

• 2870 CE
  • Growing frustrated with humanity's inability to establish contact with any of the lost human colonies outside of the Sol system, billionaire Victor Manswell begins funding his own expedition.
  • By this point, the Vulcans have rebuilt their society and begun interstellar exploration once more.

  • 300 colonists enter cryogenic stasis, and the Manswell Expedition is launched. Communications with the vessel are lost soon after.

  • About this time, work has resumed on faster-than-light travel, and such drives become a viable means of travel.

• The Denobulans begin using genetic engineering.

  • Human colonization begins outside of the Sol system in nearby systems. Corporations gain a lot of power, establishing mining colonies. To prevent the corporations from repeating the mistake's from Earth's past, the Galactic Authority is established to maintain law and order between the independent factions arising.

  • The Nexus crosses through the Milky Way.

  • The influence of the United Powers League is beginning to weaken.
    • This is most evident in the resurgence of religion on Earth.

  • The human colonists in the Koprulu Sector develop space travel capabilities that allow them to reestablish contact with each other.
    • The people of Tarsonis begins exploring the rest of the sector.
    • The planet Bountiful is settled.

  • The Terran Confederacy is founded in the Koprulu Sector.

  • The yahg are discovered on Parnack. The Citadel Council sends ambassadors -- but they are swiftly killed.
    • The Citadel Council declares Parnack off-limits.
    • A yahg is captured for the Shadow Broker to study. The yahg quickly ascends through the Broker's organization, becoming known as Operative Kechlu and ultimately killing and taking the place of the Shadow Broker.

  • A civil war erupts on Xindus, that will last for the next one hundred cycles and will end in the destruction of the planet.

  • Edfell-Ashland Energy is able to extract helium-3 from Saturn.

  • Construction begins on the Gagarin Station beyond the orbit of Pluto.

  • Traces of element zero are found on Mars.
  • The Raza is hired to bring a rebellious mining colony back under control of Ferrous Corp. The crew enters stasis during the trip and emerges without memories of who they were. (Dark Matter begins.)

  • Humanity discovers a small cache of Prothean technology buried beneath the surface of Mars. Building on this, humans begin research on mass effect fields and more effective, efficient variations of faster-than-light travel.

  • Humans discover that Pluto's moon, Charon, is actually a massive piece of ancient Prothean technology -- a mass relay, frozen in ice. Explorers venture through the relay and are transported instantly to Arcturus.
  • The Galactic Authority is disbanded and the Systems Alliance is chartered by the UPL to spearhead exploration into deeper space.

  • The Systems Alliance discovers Terra Nova and begins plans to colonize it.
  • A border conflict begins between the Vulcans and Andorians shortly after first contact. It will last for two hundred cycles.

  • A number of starship drive failures are ochestrated, showering human colonies in element zero. A second generation of children with biotic potential will be born as a result.
  • The Leviathan of Dis is discovered by a batarian survery team but disappears shortly thereafter under dubious circumstances.

  • Ivor Johnstagg is sentenced to 21 years of imprisonment for attempting to assassinate Venta Tox. Though he claims to have done this on behalf of Eternal Earth, no connection is discovered.

  • As a mark of humanity's growing influence in the galaxy, they are granted an embassy on the Citadel.
  • Tensions mount between humans and batarians, competing for the Skyllian Verge.
  • Terrorists steal antimatter from the SSV Geneva -- the only one who is captured names Cerberus as his sponsor. This is the first public action credited to the organization.

  • Kaiden Alenko receives biotic implants.

• 2968 CE
  • Kaiden Alenko accidentally kills Commander Vyrnnus, and the BAaT program is shut down for two years.
  • Shepard receives secondary exposure to element zero, and develops biotic inclinations.

  • The human colony of Mindoir is attacked and enslaved by batarians.
  • An Eldfell-Ashland Energy ship explodes in the orbit of Yandoa, showering the human colonists with element zero with catastrophic results -- however, thirty-seven children are born with biotic potential as a result. Gillian Grayson is one of the thirty-seven.
  • The Varro launches a spaceship that eventually becomes a generational ship.

  • The batarians, in protest of the Citadel Council's unwillingness to limit human expansion, close their embassy and withdraw to their home systems.

  • Fehl Prime is attacked by the Collectors. Delta Squad manages to disable the Collector ship. James Vega rescues the asari Treeya -- for her vital information on the Collectors -- rather than to rescue the human colonists before the vessel crashes into the planet's surface.
  • Shepard is revived and tasked with investigating the disappearances of entire human colonies in the Terminus Systems. Shepard uncovers the Collectors' involvement, and ends the threat they pose. (Mass Effect 2)
  • March 28: A coalition of corporations invades the planet Garvug.

  • January 12: The asari discover a lost human colony in the Alpha Centauri system, believed to be the remnants of the Manswell Expedition. Contact is reestablished.
    • A bizarre energy field prevents the asari from discovering the fate of the human colonists on Chiron -- though the planet shows no signs of human life.
  • January 23: The SSV Budapest withdraws from the Bahak system.
    • Shortly after this, an asteroid is sent crashing into the system's mass relay. The explosion destroys the system -- an unfortunate side effect of slowing down the Reapers.
  • Cerberus captures Paul Grayson and implants him with Reaper technology.

  • The Romulan Insurgency ends, beginning the Romulan Civil War.
  • The influence on the Iconians on the events in both the Alpha Quadrant and Beta Quadrant become apparent.

  • The Nexus returns to the Milky Way.
  • While a peaceful summit between Klingons, Romulans, and the Federation commences elsewhere, the Undine launch an attack on Qo'nos and Earth.
  • The Klingon-Federation War ends in a ceasefire, in order to allow the two major powers to appropriately defend themselves against the Iconians.
  • Incursions from the Mirror Universe occur in the Alpha Quadrant.
  • The Na'kuhl launch hostilities against the major powers of the Beta Quadrant, and also appear ready to be preparing to engage in a temporal war.
  • The Tzenkethi Coalition begin testing protomatter weapons.

36th Century

• The United Federation of Planets is the largest superpower in the Milky Way during this century. Their membership grows to include even Klingons and Romulans.
• During this century, the UFP makes contact with the Uncharted Territories.
• 3585 CE
  • The ark ships of the Andromeda Initiative finally reach the Heleus Cluster.

37th Century

• Late in this century, one hundred Changelings return to the Great Link.
• 2664 CE
  • The quarantine on Velara III is lifted, and the microbrains there reopen communication with the UFP.

38th Century

• Peace is achieved in the Milky Way with the formation of the Galactic Union, an interplanetary government and coalition between the major political powers of the galaxy including the United Federation of Planets, the Romulan Republic, the Klingon Empire, the Dominion, the Nebari Establishment, the Consortium of Trao, the Scarran Imperium, and many other political powers.

41st Century

• By this century, time travel is so common in the United Federation of Planets that every classroom is equipped with quantum discriminators.

Interim

• The United Federation of Planets is infiltrated by individuals from the Mirror Universe, who begin to corrupt it's true purpose. The Galactic Union falls apart.
• War breaks out in the Milky Way, the devastating conflict leads to the United Federation of Planets being re-formed as the Terran Federation -- led by interlopers from the Mirror Universe.
  • Significant technology is lost as a result of the conflict, including transporter technology.
  • Many species of the Milky Way are wiped out during the war.
• The Milky Way is invaded by Andromedans. The Terran Federation narrowly wins the Intergalactic War, but loses much of its territory and influence as a result.
• The Terran Federation rebuilds itself through use of a Pacification Programme, using drugs to sedate populations of planets.
• After hundreds of cycles, the Terran Federation finally collapses. A number of corporations take over in its absence -- the Galactic Authority acts as a puppet government for these corporate interests. (Dark Matter and Borderlands take place during this period.)

Dark Age of Technology

15th Millenium

• The Dark Age of Technology begins. Some of the greatest scientific minds in mankind's history exist.
  • Human psykers known as Navigators are discovered -- using psionic powers, they prove capable of finding pathways through the Warp.
    • The Great Diaspora of Mankind: The ability to traverse the Warp makes travel across the Milky Way almost instantaneous. Humanity spreads across the galaxy, wiping out a number of species and taking over numerous planets as they go.
  • Human scientists create artificially intelligent robots known as the Men of Iron. They eventually rebel against their creators -- a devastating war occurs and the study and creation of artificial intelligence is outlawed on all human worlds.
  • Uncontrolled psionically powerful humans are overtaken by daemons from the Warp.

18th Millenium

• The city of Commorragh is constructed within the Webway.
  • Eldar, seeking to avoid the attention of the Eldar Empire, escape to Commorragh to engage in hedonistic cult activities.
    • The hedonistic cults begin to rise in popularity, power, and influence. They take up permanent residence within the Webway.

19th Millenium

• Worship of the traditional Eldar Gods begins to wane across the Eldar Empire as new sects rise to power. The Dark Muses become the new figureheads of the vice-obsessed religious order.

20th Millenium

• The Eldar who live within the Webway, begin to steal suns from realspace to power their growing subspace civilization.
  • The star systems affected by these stolen suns wither and die. Millions of species are driven to extinction.

21st Millenium

• 20001 CE
  • A terrible catastrophe occurs -- forcing humanity to build up weapons and military tactics to defend themselves.

22nd Millenium

• Humankind first encounters and fights the Eldar and the Orks during this millenium -- both of which have become galactic superpowers in recent millenia. Humanity suffers heavy losses.
  • WAAAGH! Skragjaw nearly reaches Earth before it is thwarted.

23rd Millenium

• The Knight Worlds manage to stand against the insanity that grips many human worlds, and their knightly orders battle daemons and other creatures from the Warp.

24th Millenium

• Warp storms cut off the planets that will eventually become the homeworld of the Squats. These storms will last 5,000 cycles.
  • This separation causes the humans living on these worlds to adapt to their conditions -- evolving into Squats.

Age of Strife

25th Millenium

• There is a massive increase in the number of humans born with psionic and biotic potential.
  • Many of these psykers, having no control over their abilities, unleash untold destruction on their homeworlds.
    • Psykers begin to be treated as pariahs, often called "witches".
    • Psykers make convenient hosts for daemonic entities seeking to escape the Warp.
• Galaxy-wide warp storms make faster-than-light travel all but impossible.
• The Standard Template Construct database is lost -- causing much of human history and technology to be lost with it.
• The Horiax Treatise -- an ancient text describing advanced genetic engineering -- is found. The technology required, however, is lost.
• Due to the hedonism of the Eldar, a new entity begins forming the Immaterium.

29th Millenium

• The Squats are betrayed by the Orks and the Eldar.
• The Eldar, heeding warning from the Slann, create Craftworlds to save their species.
• The galactic warp storms end, but by this point faster-than-light travel has been lost by virtually every species remaining in the Milky Way.

Age of the Imperium

30th Millenium

• The Eldar Exodus: preparing for the destruction of their race, a portion of the Eldar population escapes the corruption of the Eldar Empire by boarding Craftworlds.
• The Chaos God Slaanesh is born out of the psionic energy created by the hedonism and pleasure-seeking excess of the Eldar living within the Warp.
• Simultaneous to the birth of Slaanesh, human psykers launch a psionic attack upon the Q Continuum -- hoping to take their subspace realm and create a safe haven for others like themselves.
  • The violence of this act -- in combination with the violent energy released into the Eldar Empire by Slaanesh's birth -- causes a region of space in the heart of the Eldar Empire to sink into the Warp, creating the rift known as the Eye of Terror.
• The Age of War: The Age of Trade between the Eldar, the Orks, and the Squats comes to an abrupt end after nearly three millenia after Grunhag the Flayer leads an assault on the Squat homeworlds. The Squats appeal to the Eldar for help but none arrives.
• 29540 CE
  • Discovery of Mezoa: The planet Mezoa is discovered in the Cyclops Cluster. It is claimed as an outpost of the Lucien Mechanicum and becomes an independent forge world.
• 29570 CE
  • Exploration of Mandragoran Stars begins: Lady Arica Orpheus explores the Mandragoran region of the galaxy, cataloging countless dead worlds and aged stars. The exploration of this region lasts through 29750 CE.
• 29675 CE
  • The Massacre of Gaduare: in under an hour's time, less than 5,000 Thunder Warriors slaughter 50,000 militiamen in Gaduare, Franc.
• 29745 CE
  • On Terra, the Emperor of Mankind and the Legio Custodes eradicate the last church -- the Church of the Lightning Stone. This ushers in a secular age and belief in the "Imperial Truth".
• 29748 CE
  • The flagship of the Dark Angels, the Invincible Reason, begins its service to the Imperium of Man.
• 29750 CE
  • The Primarch Project: the Emperor of Mankind begins to craft genetically perfect Primarchs, but their gestation capsules are taken into the Warp by the Chaos Gods and scattered across the Milky Way.
  • The Exploration of Mandragoran Stars ends.
• 29780 CE
  • The First Founding: 20 legions of genetically engineered Space Marines are founded.
• Unknown Dates
  • Sa'afrik Liberation: the first recorded engagement of the World Eaters, although after this victory the Emperor of Mankind seems to have been reserved in his use of Space Marines during the Unification Wars.
  • Pacification of the Cephic HIves: the War Hounds earn their name by doggedly combatting the residents of the sprawling Cephic Hives.
• 29790 CE
  • The Incaladion Conflcit: the planet of Incaladion is divided between warring factions and becomes a global battleground.
  • The First Pacification of Luna: the combined forces of the Imperial Fists, Ultramarines, and Luna Wolves engage in a conflict with Luna to bring the satellite's residents to heel under the Emperor of Mankind. The conflict lasts six hours, and ends in a victory for the Space Marines.
• 29798 CE
  • The Unification Wars end, and the Imperium of Man is now in control of the entirety of Terra.
  • The Great Crusade begins: The Imperium of Man seeks to spread its influence out across the entirety of the Milky Way and to unite all human worlds under the reign of the Emperor of Mankind.
  • The Pacification of the Boetian Lowlands: the Thousand Sons legion is created to combat any rebels left on Terra after the Unification Wars. They swiftly bring the nation of Boetia to heel.
  • The Unheard War: the Azurite Stations of Uranus become embroiled in a conflict with space pirates. 50 Imperial Fists arrive at the station to battle the pirates, and ultimately sacrifice themselves and the station in order to prevent a terrible and ancient psionic weapon from wreaking havoc on humanity.

  • Cerberus Insurrection: the asteroid prison colony of Cerberus revolts, descending into mob violence. The anarchistic movement is quelled by the War Hounds legion and the XXII regiment of the Imperialis Auxilla.
• 29800 CE
  • The Consus Drift Compliance: the 3rd Expeditionary Fleet, under the command of the Imperial Fists, discovers the the Consus Drift and conquers the Driftborn, forcing them into imperial submission.
• 29803 CE
  • The Flesh Change: the Thousand Sons begin to develop psychic abilities. Use of Warp-derived psychic powers, however, begins to mutate some of them -- and ultimately one even transformed into a mindless Chaos Spawn.
  • The Paramar System is discovered. It will become a waypoint for further Imperial exploration into the Segmentum Obscurus.
  • First contact is made between the Imperium of Man the Ak'Haireth. The Ak'Haireth are wiped out by the Luna Wolves and the Night Lords.
• 29805 CE
  • The Treaty of Olympus Mons is signed, bringing peace between Terra and Mars.
  • The Primarch Horus Lupercal is discovered on the planet Cthonia.
  • The Siege of Reillis: the Emperor of Mankind and Horus Lupercal fight together at Reillis. Horus is wounded in the battle, and the Emperor protects him until reinforcements arrived.
• 29806 CE
  • The Gorro Hollowing: the Emperor of Mankind leads an assault on an Ork empire that is centered on Gorro. During the height of the battle, Horus Lupercal saves the Emperor from a monstrous Ork.
  • The Compliance of the Osiris Cluster: the Ultramarines discover the Osiris Cluster and bring the inhabitants under Imperial control with relatively little bloodshed.
• 29807 CE
  • The Primarch Leman Russ is discovered, having been raised by wolves on the planet Fenris.
  • The Battle of Rust: The X Legion leads an invasion of the Krooked-Klaw Empire.
  • War in the Shedim Drifts: Horus Lupercal commands a battle against marauding Eldar Craftworlds. Though the battle is a victory, Lupercal sacrifices the Legio Atarus to accomplish it.
• 29810 CE
  • The Emperor of Mankind finds the Primarch Ferrus Manus on the planet Medusa. Manus quickly establishes himself the leader of a legion of Space Marines -- the Iron Hands (who formally adopt that name at this time.)
• 29813 CE
  • Mezoa joins the Imperium of Man.
• 29824 CE
  • Lethe is contacted by Vaspperly Elgin.
• 29829 CE
  • The Proximan Rebellion: one of the earliest recorded engagements of the III Legion. The Emperor of Mankind was wounded in the battle, but the sacrifice of many Space Marines allowed him time to escape.
• 29830 CE
  • The Gene-Seed Crisis: almost the entire stock of the III Legion's gene-seed is lost in a crash on Luna shortly before a virus threatens the gene-seed stock on Terra.
  • Reports of Space Marines who answer to no master are first heard. Sparse fragments of anomalous Legiones Astartes activity is recorded. Both are attributed to a "Ghost Legion".
  • The Praxil Rebellion begins. This ultimately ends in victory for the Imperium of Man.
• 29832 CE
  • Primarch Fulgrim is found on the planet Chemos, and is soon after given command of the III Legion.
