Zerus is a planet near the center of the Milky Way. It is the only planet in the Zerus system. The zerg originated on this world.
History[]
The first spawning pool was on this world. One essence split into many, and began devouring each other -- gaining in strength. Despite their voracious nature, the zerg were an insignificant lifeform on Zerus -- until they caught the attention of the xel'naga. The xel'naga's interference allowed the zerg to survive the harshness of Zeus, and let them thrive.
Amon sought to steal essence -- but the zerg were too independent to be controlled. And so, Amon bound them into a hive mind. This enraged other xel'naga, and a civil war erupted. Amon commanded the zerg to destroy the protoss -- and so the Swarm left Zerus and headed towards Aiur.
But some zerg were left behind. They became the primal zerg. As they evolved, so too did Zerus, which eventually became a jungle planet.
Discovery[]
Zerus remained undiscovered by the civilized species of the galaxy until 3105 CE, when Sarah Kerrigan and the Dark Prelate Zeratul arrived. They awakened Zurvan, who instructed Kerrigan to enter the first spawning pool -- and thus, Kerrigan was changed into the Primal Queen of Blades. She eliminated the leaders of each of the primal zerg packs, and became the ruler of Zerus before departing once more to return to the Koprulu Sector.
